His natural hair colour is brown but shown with dyed blond for
the
role of David in the above photo. His eye colour is grey, which
is apparently quite common in the central and northern Europe. I had an opportunity to see him in person after the "Saul" in Bonn in 2001. The photo on the left was taken at that time. He was medium height and slight build. When he kindly shook my hand, I was amazed how soft and smooth his hand was! On the stage, he gave me a 'larger-than-life' impression, a real presence of a professional opera singer. But he was actually a very casual and friendly person without a stage makeup. He told me about a performance plan in Japan which, for some reason, never materialized. I hope that he becomes better know to Japanese music fans since he has one of the most beautiful voice among the currently active sopranists. |

There are some sample clips in several online CD shps. But depending on your computer environment, the media format may not work for you. So here are some sample clips in more universal MP3 format:
Incidentally, J.C. Bach is the youngest son of J.S. Bach. He settled down in London and became a successful opera composer. In those days, he was more famous than his father who never left his homeland. At a tender age of eight, W.A. Mozart visited J.C. Bach in 1764 and was greatly influenced by him. That explains the unmistakable overtone of Mozart one would recognize in this opera. |
